Electrical system toolkit for compact machines

Electrification and automation are increasingly taking a leading role in compact construction machines and devices. Hatz is developing an electrical system toolkit for compact machines and mobile robotics. A concept study will be seen for the first time at the Bauma 2022 in Munich.

Construction machines and devices operate autonomously and in conjunction with one another on the construction site of the future. This is what the vision looks like. Motorenfabrik Hatz can at this point offer added value with its knowledge of the drive technology-related challenges of these applications. Hatz pursues an approach which is open to any technology, in order to provide the right drive systems for the machines and their intended applications. Hatz is well known for the diesel engine. With HVO it is also possible to use alternative fuels. The drive system experts are now working on a comprehensive electrical system toolkit for smaller construction machines and mobile robotics.

This toolkit meets the demands placed on the machines of the construction site of the future. It assists the operators of these machines in focusing on their core tasks. Satellite navigation as the basis for autonomous driving is just as much part of the concept as an optimized electrical drive system comprised of a motor, an application-neutral control and development platform, plus a battery including battery management system. Machine manufacturers will soon benefit from this open approach. They will be able to use this toolkit as a basis upon which to develop their own applications. The initial development steps towards robotics on the construction site will be simplified. Hatz will be presenting an initial technology demonstrator at the Bauma.

Dr. Sebastian Wohlgemuth, Director Research and Development, explains why Hatz in particular developed such a system toolkit for compact, electrically powered machines:

“We have extensive application-related know-how in the field of compact machinery on the construction site. We have been supplying this challenging market with drive systems for many decades. Hardly any other supplier knows as well as we do what requirements will be put on construction machines now or in the future – or how these can be met.”

But it is not only its sector-related expertise that makes Hatz the right choice, as Wohlgemuth explains:

“Hatz is a technology company that has long been developing and marketing digital solutions and services. This wealth of experience is what is now helping us to construct the necessarydevelopment platform. In addition to which, we now have complete experts in the field of electrical systems in our ranks, in the form of Inecosys.”

Hatz acquired Inecosys last year. Inecosys is a young company from Munich, with in-depth expertise in the development of control and electronics systems for drive solutions. This is aided in particular by the specialization in electrical hardware and software in equal measure in the development of the Hatz system toolkit. In Inecosys and Hatz, two leading technology firms are joining forces to create an innovative solution that meets the requirements of modern construction sites.
